PARAMETRIC FURNITURE/STRUCTURE SCALE MODEL: SCALE MODEL

" Portable Lantern "

I made a portable lantern for this assignment, which means everyone can easily handle and control the lantern anywhere. Since this lantern can be folded flat in a cylindrical shape, it can be conveniently carried in a bag. The light bulb inside is detachable and can be turned on and off like a flashlight with a switch located at the bottom. When the light is turned on, the overall color of the lantern is brightened by the light. It has a pretty design and can be very useful when camping or traveling with a lightweight. It is about 30-40centimeters long and weighs about 2 kilograms.

- Materials: Stainless, Wood (No heat conduction allowed from a light bulb)
- Scale: L 30-40cm
- Weight: 1-2kg
- Intended location/audience: Traveling, Camping

  4. The pattern and colour make for a very calming lantern. The shadows of this lamp would be really fun too.

  6. The fact that it folds up makes it so useful this is a very marketable product! I imagine the exterior being interchangeable and you could design different sleeves for different occasions. Like a semi-transparent exterior without holes for a night light for example. Very flexible concept lots of potential!

  7. Looks like a cool lantern. And you could easily attach a strap or handle to it so you can attach it to things or carry it. I could see the outside being made of a silicone so that it could be squished and bumped around without the light inside getting affected. Do you imagine the light source as some kind of battery operated LED? Cool design.

  12. Nice work Sarah! I hope you put a light in your scale model--it would be so fun to see the light pattern in real life. Your animation was helpful for me to see the parameters of your design. I think it's great that the silhouette of your form is modifiable because you can create dozens of unique shapes! I'm guessing that your scale model will be 3D printed--would your full-scale model be 3D printed as well? I'd love to know your thoughts on that :)
